Elmhurst’s Best Pizza Restaurants

Posted by Lexington Square

There are few cities as closely associated with a food as Chicago is with pizza. There’s no doubt that the “lasagna with crust” (as New Yorkers call Chicago-style pizza) is legendary worldwide, but the city and its surroundings have more to offer than just deep dish. In fact, some of the world’s best pizza varieties can be found right here in Elmhurst.

Seeing that pizza is such a fixture in the lives of many Chicagoans, we felt it would be helpful to put together a list of Elmhurst’s pizza restaurants. This way any time you feel the urge for a pizza you can just look over this list to easily locate the perfect pie. All of the restaurants we’ve included are located in Elmhurst and offer dine-in, carry-out, limited delivery, or a combination of the three.

Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria

110 W Park Avenue

Elmhurst, IL 60126

Phone: (630) 516-0800

The only name you really need to know when discussing Chicago-style, deep dish pizza is Lou Malnati. Lou began working in the very first deep dish pizzeria in Chicago in the 1940s before opening his own restaurant in 1971. The best pizza on the menu, and the pie that made this place famous, is the Malnati Chicago Classic. Made with their own lean sausage, California vine-ripened tomatoes, Wisconsin mozzarella, and their secret recipe Buttercrust, this is the pie the world envisions when they think of Chicago. This is the original Chicago-style deep dish pizza, and once you’ve eaten it you’ll never be the same.

The menu at Lou Malnati’s has all of the traditional pizza parlor selections with a few noted additions. Their bruschetta is a thing of beauty and tastes as good as it looks while their pastas have Old-World class and flavor. There’s nothing on the menu to shy away from, and everything about the company to fall in love with. They are run by Mr. Malnati’s wife and two sons, they are among Chicago’s most philanthropic commercial enterprises, and 15% of their workforce has been with them for more than a decade. That was Lou’s formula for success when he started and it’s still working today.

Pazzi Di Pizza

105 S York Street

Elmhurst, IL 60126

(630) 279-2323

One of the easiest ways to spot a great pizza place is the ownership. If the parlor has an Italian in the kitchen, behind the counter, or in the boardroom, there’s a good chance you’re in for a good pie. Well, Pazzi Di Pizza, or Crazy for Pizza in English, is owned by two Italian gentlemen from different parts of the country, so there’s little doubt you’re in for a real treat.

Opening in 2011, Pazzi Di Pizza offers an impressive menu of Italian favorites with regional influences. Their claim to fame, at least as far as pizza goes, is their woodfire oven-cooked selections, and of those the Capriciossa with Fior Di Latte mozzarella, prosciutto, sautéed mushrooms, artichoke hearts, and Gaeta olives. They also have a great selection of gluten-free offerings to appease everyone at your table. Don’t forget to order some tiramisu for dessert. You’ll be thankful you did!

Roberto’s Ristorante

483 S Spring Road

Elmhurst, IL 60126

(630) 279-8474

Roberto’s Ristorante in Elmhurst may not jump to mind when you think of the area’s great pizza and that’s a real shame. Their expertise in pie-making is well disguised by their elegantly designed dining room and expansive menu of Italian favorites. Yet, if you dig a little deeper into the menu you’ll find a goldmine of gourmet pizza delights.

The pizza of note at Roberto’s is the Vito’s Special. It’s prosciutto diparma, fontina cheese, extra virgin olive oil, arugula, and cherry tomatoes, and it’s an Italian food lover’s dream. All of the ingredients here are fresh, the recipes are traditional, and the results are spectacular. The delivery menu is much larger than you would expect, and the prices are right in line with most other good pizza providers. All-in-all, Roberto’s Ristorante is a delicious choice for any occasion.

Sarpino’s Pizza

623 W North Avenue, Suite 6

Elmhurst, IL 60126

(630) 279-2900

Normally, a cookie-cutter chain would never make a list like this. They are too inconsistent and bland to make any real mark on the pizza-loving public. Yet, Sarpino’s is not your average pizza franchise. Or, maybe it is and the store in Elmhurst is just that much better because of the ownership and the staff. Whatever the combination, the results you get when you order a Sarpino’s pizza in Elmhurst are out-of-this-world!

Sarpino’s menu has all of the expected pizza parlor fare plus a few choices you may find surprising. Their pizza choices alone are too numerous to count but you can never go wrong with the New York Deli – their traditional pan pizza with every deli meat you would expect to find in your average Brooklyn-based delicatessen. If you’re not a meat lover, you can always try one of their vegetarian options too. Whatever choice you make for your entrée, don’t forget to add a fruit-filled dessert pizza to your order.

Armand’s Pizza & Pasta

105 W 1st Street

Elmhurst, IL 60126

(630) 782-5800

The story behind Armand’s Pizzeria is the very same story you find behind so many of Chicago’s great family-owned businesses – hard work and perseverance. Armand’s has been serving the best thin crust Chicago pizza since 1956 when they opened their doors in Elmwood Park. Today they have expanded throughout the Chicago area, but still serve the same award-winning, paper-thin crust they did in the 50s.

Armand’s Pizzeria is to the Chicago-style thin crust pizza what Lou Malnati’s is to deep dish. You literally can’t go wrong with any of their thin crispy selections from the menu, but try the Signature with its extra virgin olive oil base, fontinella, and artichoke hearts. It’s unlike anything you’ve ever had in your life and should not be missed. If you’re in the mood for a side with your pizza then include an order of their antipasto salad. It’s the perfect accompaniment to a thin crust slice!

Mamma Maria’s Pizza

130 W Vallette Street

Elmhurst, IL 60126

(630) 832-0555

Every city has one of those special places. You know, the place where community teens work their first jobs, the place where the same couples are found at the same tables week after week, and the first thing you notice when you open the door is how welcoming and friendly everyone seems to be. It’s the place you look for but can never find. Well, at least until now – because its name is Mama Maria’s and it’s in Elmhurst, Illinois.

Serving exceptional pizza since opening in 1982, the great people at Mama Maria’s are a well-established part of the Elmhurst community with a great variety on the menu. They serve one of the finest white sauce pizzas, or Pizza of the Gods, you’ll find anywhere outside of Italy. Topped with fresh garlic, fresh basil, fresh tomatoes, and fresh mozzarella and Provolone cheeses, this pizza is sure to have you coming back for another slice – or three. They also have the best made-when-you-order cannolis this side of Sicily!

Nancy’s Pizzeria & Lounge

940 N York Street

Elmhurst, IL 60126

(630) 834-4374

Nancy’s Pizza dates all the way back to 1974 when Nancy and Rocco Palese opened their first restaurant in Harwood Heights. Initially finding the way difficult, they began experimenting with recipes to try to differentiate themselves from the hundreds of other pizzerias in town. It was through this experimentation that Rocco hit on the very thing that would make Nancy’s Pizza a household name in Chicago – the stuffed pizza. Now a staple in the industry, there is still no substitute for the original.

The menu at Nancy’s Pizza has everything you would expect from a pizzeria with a few tweaks here and there. They’re known for their stuffed pizzas so that’s the best place to start. The Original is exactly what its name suggests – the same 2.5” high, 12” long, 5 pound behemoth Rocco invented in the 1970s. Filled with your choice of ingredients, try the Rocco’s Party with Italian sausage, mushrooms, sautéed onions, and green peppers , there are no limits to what you can create.

MOD Pizza

556 W Saint Charles Road

Elmhurst, IL 60126

(630) 532-5879

MOD Pizza is not what most people expect when they walk into a pizzeria. In fact, it’s nothing like any of the other pizza parlors on this list, and that’s exactly why we’ve included it. What makes MOD so different? It’s their pricing model. You pay one flat rate for a particular size and then add any and all toppings you like for no additional charge. That’s a far cry from the average pizzeria where additions can quickly add up to a ridiculous total.

MOD Pizza’s menu is just like its pricing – different. You can build your own pie from the ground up, or start with one of their favorites and modify it to your heart’s content. If you’re not in the mood for choices then try the Calexico topped with mozzarella, gorgonzola, grilled chicken, jalapenos, buffalo sauce, and MOD red sauce. Be careful though, it’s a bit on the spicy side. Again, that’s the beauty of MOD Pizza – you can leave off the heat!

Pizza Palace

117 N Addison Avenue

Elmhurst, IL 60126

(630) 834-5900

Originally opened on Division Street in Chicago in 1943, the Pizza Palace moved to Elmhurst in 1955 where it’s been serving excellent pizza to the community for more than half a century. There’s something to be said for longevity, and generations of Elmhurst families can attest to the good food, great staff, and welcoming atmosphere.

The menu at Pizza Palace is just what you’d expect from a family-owned pizza place with a few not-to-be-missed additions. The homemade cheese sticks here are some of the best you’ll find anywhere, and the creamy garlic dressing is worthy of its own place in the Food Hall of Fame. The pizza is as good as you’d expect to find in a palace too. Try the Original Pizza Palace Special if you’re looking for a great pie without the hassles of difficult choices!
