“I like to be a problem-solver, a fixer. I like to help anyone in need,” said Marina Salazar. Currently the move-in coordinator at Lexington Square Lombard, Marina has been with the senior living community for ten years and has served in several roles during that time.
Marina started right after high school, working as a server in Lexington Square’s dining room. “I then began working as an activities aide,” she said. In that capacity, she helped develop and run activities for residents in independent living, assisted living and memory care. She was then promoted to the activities director. “I liked working in activities. I like making the residents happy and giving them something to do every day. I don’t like for them to be sitting in their apartments alone. They’re here to be busy and engaged.”
Marina said that she’s always eager to try something new and was excited to accept her latest position as move-in coordinator. She helps facilitate the move for new residents and ensures that their new apartments are ready for them.
Marina said, “I’m definitely a jack of all trades. I do whatever needs to be done.” This is true of the entire staff, she added. “We are definitely one big happy family and have each other’s’ backs. We’re willing to jump in for each other. It doesn’t matter what department your name tag says. We never say, ‘that’s not my job.’ We all are happy to help each other because we are really helping the residents.”
